The suspected attacker was also found dead

A neighbourhood row has left a couple and their dog dead, after two vehicles were lit on fire.

The tragic events unfolded on Wednesday evening in Maple Ridge, Canada, when what began as a reported dispute between neighbours escalated into fatal violence.

Emergency services discovered the pair in their 60s and their dog deceased inside their residence, whilst their attached garage and two vehicles had been set alight.

The suspected attacker was later found dead in a neighbouring property from what authorities believe to be self-inflicted wounds.

Two vehicles were set ablaze

The initial emergency call came through to police at approximately 6:30pm on Wednesday, with reports of a neighbourhood dispute on 239 Street near 118 Avenue.

Officers responded to what appeared to be a conflict between neighbours.

The situation dramatically worsened four hours later when authorities received multiple urgent calls from the same address.

Reports indicated a vehicle fire, a break-and-enter incident and the sound of gunshots.

This escalation transformed what had begun as a neighbourhood disagreement into a deadly confrontation that would ultimately claim four lives, including that of a family pet.

When Ridge Meadows RCMP officers arrived at the scene, they encountered two vehicles engulfed in flames alongside the burning garage attached to the residence.

Investigators have stated there are no outstanding suspects and the public faces no ongoing threat

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed that the incident was targeted and isolated, stemming from a conflict between neighbours who were acquainted with one another.

Investigators have stated there are no outstanding suspects and the public faces no ongoing threat.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia has launched a parallel inquiry to examine whether police actions or inactions played any role in the deaths.

This is standard procedure regardless of whether wrongdoing is alleged.

A spokesperson for the IHIT said: "This was a tragic incident that has had a significant impact on the families, community and first responders."
