Matteo Salvini confirmed the 'proposal is also ready before Parliament'

The Italian Deputy Prime Minister has called for a group of migrants who raped a woman in front of her fiancé to be castrated, after the victim explained the ordeal.

Last month, a man, 24, was forced to watch as up to five migrants smashed into his car before attacking and raping his 18-year-old fiancée in Rome.

The couple are said to have parked their car near Tor Tre Teoste, a secluded park that has become notorious for drug-dealing in recent years, on October 25, when they were suddenly approached by a group of men who began by attacking their car.

The pair were allegedly then dragged out of the car and onto the street by the men, who smashed their way into the vehicle using a bottle.

The woman was dragged a short distance away and was allegedly sexually abused in front of the man's eyes.

Giving her recount of events, the victim told investigators: "They entered the car after smashing a window and took my cell phone from the seat.

"I reached out to get it back, and at that point one of them grabbed my arm and dragged me out.

"'Come with me now, if you scream I'll kill you,' he said, forcing me toward the trees. But he wasn't alone; there was another man with him, making sure no one was coming.

"While he raped me, his friend kept watch to make sure no one was passing by."

Both were terrified they were going to be murdered in the secluded area, with the boyfriend adding that "They threatened us with death."

All alleged perpetrators fled the scene. Three Moroccan migrants have since been arrested by police on charges of gang rape and robbery; however, investigators believe there are still two assailants at large.

The gruesome details of the recent case caught national attention, particularly given Italy's recent string of incidents that have been one of the main crackdowns in Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's tenure.

"Now I will be called racist, but there is a higher incidence, unfortunately, in cases of sexual violence, by immigrants, especially illegal ones," Ms Meloni said back in 2024.

But it is her deputy, Matteo Salvini, who took to social media following the attack, demanding "chemical castration" for the perpetrators.

Writing on X, he said: "On the very day to highlight violence against women terrible news reaches us.

"We propose chemical castration to stop rapist and paedophiles, and our proposal is also ready before Parliament.

"Everyone should give us a hand, conferences and red marks on faces are not enough, let's put an end to the violence."

Fingerprints recovered from the shattered car window match the men who have been arrested, investigators confirmed.

The woman is also said to have recognised a photo of one of the men that was shown to her.

One of the alleged attackers is said to have told police that their initial plan was to rob the couple of their phones and cash, before using the money for drugs.

He also said they have done this up to a dozen times before, mostly extorting prostitutes.

The attack took place in the same park where a 60-year-old woman was attacked by a Gambian migrant in August, who claimed he was unaware of what he was doing because he was under the influence of drugs.

Mr Salvini has faced controversy for his anti-immigration views in the past. He was cleared of two counts of kidnap and dereliction of duty back in 2024.

The trial, which began in September 2021, focused on a case when he was the Interior Minister, and sought to stop migrants crossing the Mediterranean and blocking Italian ports.

A ship had picked up 147 migrants on the Libyan coast and was destined for Italy, but Mr Salvini refused its arrival. It remained at sea for almost three weeks.
