Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told GB News it is a 'miracle' that they have stayed away from mass migration

Hungary has "proved that illegal immigration can be stopped" if there is "political will", the country's parliamentary state secretary has declared.

Speaking to GB News, Balázs Hidvéghi said that his nation "wants to stay Hungarian" and continues to be the top country in Europe for tackling the crisis.

On Monday, GB News was the only UK broadcaster to gain access to an international press conference in Budapest, hosted by Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban.

Asked by GB News presenter Miriam Cates whether mass immigration in Western Europe has doomed us to decline, he said: "Let's express our gratitude to the Lord that we've been able to stay away from this, how we managed it, it's really a miracle.

"And I'm not only just praising my own house, as we say in Hungary, because I know how we stayed out of this in 2015 when the whole mass migration started and we had to say yes or no. Everybody was saying yes, we were the only ones to say no.

"What I'm expecting is that in the next 10, 15 years, there's going to be a substantial need requirement from Western Europe, not migrants, indigenous Europeans using the right of free travel and free movement to come and work and live in Hungary. I count on that."

Telling GB News how Hungary has managed to control migration so effectively, Mr Hidvéghi said: "It's true that migration and the forcing of mass illegal migration onto European nations is a crucial question about identity, about who we are and who we want to be.

"Hungary has been very clear from the very beginning about that, we want to stay Hungarian and we want to defend our country for our countrymen and country women, for the Hungarians maintain it for the Hungarian country, and not let it be flooded by illegal migrants from all over the place."

He added: "This has been a very, very difficult political battle since 2015. Hungary has spent over €2billion from our own budget to defend our country.

"We built a border fence in the southern border, which was most under attack by illegal migrants. We have spent the energy and time of our police forces, the military to defend that border.

"And we have proven, I think, that it is possible to stop illegal migration if there is a political will to do it. Nobody was of this opinion back ten years ago.

"We have come under enormous attacks and accusations and political pressure, primarily from Brussels, and now I think more and more people and perhaps more and more governments also now see that we were right and we have been right all along.

Noting that they have faced "court cases" in Brussels about their block on migration, Mr Hidvéghi said: "It is possible to maintain your identity, and you cannot accept illegality as a normal thing. This is what we are trying to do. We also have been involved in court cases with Brussels, the EU court. They ruled against us.

"We had a system, what we call the transit zones, basically, the idea was that nobody can enter the country before a decision is made about their request for asylum. Only if the decision is yes, can they enter.

"The EU court said this was not acceptable, this was not legal, it was against human rights and all that.

"They fined us. They made us pay €200million as a fine, and since then, 2024 was when the verdict was reached.

"They say that we have to pay a daily fee of €1million as a punishment for our stance to defend our country.

"This is outrageous, we think, but we will maintain our determined defence of our identity and of our country."

Declaring that their fight with the EU is "not finished" despite the hefty fine, he told GB News: "They are withholding this fine from the EU, funds that we are entitled to get from Brussels.

"This is an ongoing political battle, it's not finished, it's not over, because Brussels, against all the clear illustrations and proofs, on the contrary, still keeps saying that migration is a good thing.

"They keep saying that it's an inevitable thing and it's just part of normal life. And everybody must be happy if their country and culture is changed forever. We don't think so.

"And I think this battle is about the core and the soul of Europe and our children and grandchildren.

"So it's a battle that is definitely worth fighting for, and it's a position that has to be maintained and defended."

Warning that it "may be too late" for their European partners to "turn things around", Mr Hidvéghi said: "We urge our European partners primarily, we have allies in the patriotic group, the Patriots for Europe group.

"And when we see, in fact, a change across Europe in terms of how people think about migration and also how governments respond, in some places it may be too late to turn back the tides.

"That was let loose many years ago, and that already has changed many countries and their everyday lives. We don't want that. We want to maintain our peace and security for the Hungarian people. And again, our identity as Hungarians and Europeans."
