This is the third tourist to have died on a Greek island in recent days, coming exactly a week after Michael Mosley's body was discovered on the island of Symi.

The TV presenter had gone for a hike over difficult, rocky terrain on Wednesday, June 5, before disappearing.

The third tourist to be found dead was a 74-year-old Dutch man who was discovered by a fire department drone on Saturday, June 15, on the island of Samos.

He was found lying face down in a ravine about 300m from the spot where he had last been seen walking with difficulty.

Just a day earlier, Friday, June 14, two French tourists were reported missing on the island of Sikinos.

The two women, aged 64 and 73 had left their respective hotels to meet and one of them sent a distress message to the hotel owner.

Meanwhile Greek authorities on the island of Amorgos are still searching for a 59-year-old American tourist who went missing on Tuesday, June 11.

Albert Calibet, of Hermosa Beach, California, had gone on a solo hike in very hot conditions and has since disappeared.

He set off from the village of Aegiali at around 7am and was walking towards the port of Katapola - a journey that takes around four hours on foot.

The tourists have been caught in scorching temperatures as Greece has been seeing record temperatures for the month of June, with the mercury reaching 43C in many areas of the country.

This was the earliest heatwave Greece has ever recorded, with temperatures exceeding 38C for three consecutive days.
