The IDF has confirmed it struck oil depots 'belonging to the IRGC'

After massive columns of fire were seen above Tehran, the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has confirmed it struck "several fuel storage complexes" in Tehran.

In a statement, the IDF said it was guided by intelligence to target oil depots which were in the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IDF added that the Iranian regime used the oil depot to distribute fuel to military forces in the region.

The IDF added: "strike significantly deepens the damage to the military infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime."

The National Iranian Oil Company has said a number of oil depots in both Tehran and Alborz provinces were struck.

Local news agencies in Iran reported that a fuel depot in Karaj, west of Tehran, had been struck.

It said fuel in both provinces is being carried out "sustainably from other sources".

The national oil provider added that necessary measures had already been taken to minimise product reserves.

One woman who lives in Tehran told the BBC there was "a lot of smoke in the city".

A man in Karaj said he saw a "red light and everywhere was alight" after the strikes.

He learned after masking his way to the rooftop that the fire was caused by the oil depot.

Another Tehran citizen said the strikes were as if "night had turned into day".

In the video, claimed to be authentic by BBC Verify, columns of smoke are seen massing above the skies of Tehran.

A small police presence is also seen to be diverting Iranians driving through the area.

In retaliation, the IRGC said it had targeted Israel's Haifa oil refinery, state media reported.

Air raid sirens had earlier been heard in Haifa, but there are no reports of anything being hit in Israel.

The EU-proscribed terrorist group said it had targeted US forces at a base in Bahrain, local media added.

As the war has rolled on, global market and oil prices have hit multi-year highs.

Kuwait's national oil company began cutting its output on Saturday, adding to earlier oil cuts from Iraq and Qatar.

At least 1,332 Iranian civilians have died as a result of the US-Israeli strikes, according to Iran's UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani.

Six US service members have died in the Iran war, with their identities released earlier this week.
