The timing of the implementation of the first phase of Donald Trump's 20-point plan has not been agreed upon

Hamas said it has exchanged a list of the names of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners to be released under a swap deal.

It stated that it was optimistic about talks in Egypt on US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza.

Hamas added that negotiations are focused on how to halt the conflict, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the swap deal.

Talks are currently ongoing in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Mr Trump is hopeful about the progress towards a deal, the day after the second anniversary of the October 7 attack.

A US team, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will take part in the talks over a plan to silence the guns.

Both officials on all sides urged caution over the prospects of a rapid agreement.

An Israeli official said Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's close confidant, will join the talks tomorrow.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, a key mediator, and Turkish spymaster Ibrahim Kalin, will also take part in the ceasefire negotiations tomorrow.

Hamas has called for a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of all Israeli troops and the immediate start of a comprehensive reconstruction process under the supervision of a Palestinian "national technocratic body".

Israel has called for Hamas to disarm, which the terror group has rejected.

US officials suggest they want to begin focusing talks on a halt to the fighting and logistics of how the Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees will be freed.

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan said his nation is explaining to Hamas the best approach for a Palestinian state, in line with Mr Trump's calls to end the war in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters on a flight back from Azerbaijan, Mr Erdogan said Turkish officials were involved in the negotiations as they pushed for peace efforts and Hamas to accept the 20-point proposal.

Mr Erdogan said that in any post-war scenario, Gaza must remain part of a Palestinian state and will be governed by Palestinians.

In the absence of a ceasefire, Israel said it will push on with its offensive in Gaza.

Israel launched its offensive after the October 7 attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostage.

There are believed to be 48 hostages still being held by Hamas, only 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Mr Netanyahu warned that if Hamas did not accept the plan or did not follow it through, Israel "will finish the job".

Mr Trump echoed the Israeli President's comments, saying the US will back Tel Aviv to "finish the job of destroying the threat of Hamas".
