Israel is said to be planning to throw Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in "terrorist-level conditions" behind bars after she set sail for Gaza once again.

Ms Thunberg's fleet ships left Spain on Sunday as part of the self-proclaimed "largest solidarity mission" in history.

She was joined by Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, and Ada Colau, the former Mayor of Barcelona.

Earlier this year, Ms Thunberg sailed to Gaza alongside 11 other activists when they were intercepted by Israeli authorities 115 miles west of the Strip.

She claimed they were "kidnapped on international waters" - but Israel confirmed they were given water and sandwiches before being escorted to the port of Ashdod.

Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, is now set to present Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan to imprison the activists in "terrorist-level" conditions in the Ktzi'ot and Damon detention centre for females, according to one of Israel's biggest newspapers, Israel Hayom.

The newspaper quoted sources close to Mr Ben-Gvir saying: "Following several weeks at Ktzi'ot and Damon, they'll be sorry about the time they arrived here.

"We must eliminate their appetite for another attempt."

It is believed his plan will also include seizing vessels in order to use them to establish a "maritime force for police operations".

Dozens more ships from around the Mediterranean are expected to join the Global Sumud Flotilla which, according to its website, aims to "break the illegal siege on Gaza by sea, open a humanitarian corridor, and end the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people".

The launch dates of the "largest coordinated civilian flotilla in history" are August 31 from Barcelona and September 4 from Tunis in Tunisia and the Italian island of Sicily.

A blockade has been imposed on Gaza's waters by Israel in order to stop weapons being smuggled through to Hamas and other terror groups.

With the embargo in place, it is expected the flotilla will be stopped by Israeli forces long before it reaches the shore.

Speaking to Iranian Press TV, Ms Thunberg said: "This project is part of a global uprising of people standing up... when our governments fail to step up, the people will take their place, and that their atrocities an their complicity in the genocide in Gaza right now... is not something we can stand for."

A ruling has not been made by the International Court of Justice as to whether Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Ms Thunberg also claimed more than 26,000 people has signed up to join the flotilla.

Speaking to Sky News ahead of her departure from Barcelona, the left-wing activist said: "it is not antisemitic to say that we should not be bombing people, that one should not be living in occupation, that everyone should have the right to live in freedom and dignity, no matter who you are."

GETTY

In Ms Thunberg's earlier stunt this year, activists were given the opportunity to watch footage of the Hamas attacks on October 7, however according to Israel's Defence Minister, they refused.

Israel Katz said: "When they saw what it was about, they refused to continue watching."

Israel's Foreign Ministry then accused the activists of attempting "to stage a media provocation whose sole purpose was to gain publicity.

It added: "There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip - they do not involve Instagram selfies.

"Unauthorised attempts to breach the blockade are dangerous, unlawful, and undermine ongoing humanitarian efforts."

US President Donald Trump said: "I think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg.

"She's a young, angry person... I think she has to go to an anger management class."
