A Russian propagandist has questioned why the British toddler cannot be Russian

The Kremlin has weighed in on the missing British toddler who is alleged to have been "kidnapped" by his Russian mother.

A commenter on the country's state media said the three-year-old is "Russian" and demanded that the Kremlin "protect the mother's right" to be with him.

Oliver P has been at the centre of an urgent police search since he went missing in Marbella on July 4.

He has a British father and a Russian mother, who are believed to be separated.

The family lived in Spain, where a court order barred the child from being removed from the country.

Spanish National Police said the father filed a police report, stating that the Russian mother abducted the boy.

Neither of the parents have been named.

The Spanish National Police said it is thought the mother took Oliver "back to her home country".

The force confirmed that their "investigation is ongoing".

Russian authorities have not yet confirmed whether the toddler is in the country.

However, state media propagandist Vladimir Kornilov said it is "suspected that she took her son to Russia".

Writing on Telegram, Mr Kornilov said: "This, of course, is not yet a fact. But if this is indeed the case, it seems to me that we must do everything possible to protect the mother's right to be with her Russian child."

In response to the UK calling the young boy British, Mr Kornilov said: "Why can't I call him Russian by the same logic?

"How [do] you determine that the boy is British if his mother might think otherwise?"

Oliver has blonde hair, distinctively grey eyes, and is just under three feet tall.

Spain's National Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesman said: "We are treating this as a parental abduction. We believe the mother has left Spain and has taken the boy to her homeland, which is Russia."

The appeal from the Ministry of the Interior, released by the country's National Missing Persons Centre (CNDES), said: "Oliver disappeared on July 4, 2025. His date of birth is November 3, 2021. He was three when he disappeared.

"The place he disappeared from is Marbella in the province of Malaga. He has grey eyes, blonde hair, stands 85 centimetres tall [2.75ft] and weighs 15 kilos [2.36st]."

Police say people can contact them on the missing person hotline, 116000, or by calling the national police, 091.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British child who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."
