Argentine President Javier Milei has hailed a “tipping point” as his party swept to victory in the South American nation’s midterm elections.
The maverick politician declared that his victory would now see the “construction of a great Argentina” begin.
La Libertad Avanza, President Milei’s party, won 40.84 per cent of the nationwide vote with 95 per cent of the ballots counted.
Following the victory, the leader took to the stage and addressed hundreds of supporters gathered in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires.
“Today we passed the tipping point – the construction of a great Argentina begins,” he triumphantly told the crowd.
“Something unprecedented, not only in Argentine history but in world history, because the US has never offered support of such magnitude.
"We must consolidate the path of reform we have embarked upon to turn Argentina's history around once and for all… to make Argentina great again," the President promised.
The midterm vote of confidence from Argentinians trumped even La Libertad Avanza’s more modest hopes, previously considering 30 per cent to be an acceptable outcome.

In contrast, the Peronist opposition party, Fuerza Patria, secured just 31.67 per cent of ballots cast.
Sunday’s election has been tipped as a de facto referendum on President Milei’s maverick libertarian governing style, which he implemented upon taking office in December 2023.
It proved to be a dramatic turnaround of fortunes for the ruling party, which held just seven seats in the Argentine Senate and 37 in the lower house.
The midterms saw them secure 13 of 24 Senate seats and 64 of the 127 lower-house seats up for grabs.

Monday’s results saw them achieve their goal of securing at least a third of the lower house to sustain presidential vetoes.
US President Trump was among those congratulating Mr Milei on the outcome, calling the result a “landslide victory”.
“Our confidence in him was justified by the people of Argentina,” he said.
President Trump's words follow the pledging of a $40billion (£30billion) financial aid package by the US earlier this month, the largest American bailout of another country since Mexico in 1995.
In 2023, President Milei made headlines for his “chainsaw” approach to spending cuts and reducing Government bloat. After taking office, he slashed tens of thousands of public jobs and froze spending in several key areas.
The measures quickly took effect, bringing down inflation by more than 200 per cent in that year to 30 per cent. He also secured the first fiscal surplus in Argentina’s coffers in 14 years.
On the flip side, the purchasing power of the Argentine peso was hit, and the nation has seen the loss of as many as 250,000 jobs. Despite this, economic activity grew by 0.3 per cent in August 2025 after three months of decline.
President Milei’s personal popularity also took a hit ahead of the midterms after his sister, Karina Milei, was implicated in an alleged corruption scheme.
