All but one of the 242 people on the London-bound flight died when it crashed into a residential area on Thursday.

“He said he has a minor injury in the face, feet and hands. That’s it.”

Jack said the fact Ramesh was able to walk away from the crash with seemingly so few injuries was “nothing short of a miracle”.

He added: “The family are on a plane to be able to go and see him. Of course, at the same time as the elation that he has survived and the relief, they are now mourning the loss of his older brother.

“They had gone to India on holiday to enjoy the country they love so much, but this tragedy struck so unexpectedly.”

The plane issued a distress call before crashing into a government hospital hostel site near the airport. Footage captured the aircraft struggling to stay airborne before plummeting and erupting in flames.

"When we reached the spot, there were several bodies lying around and firefighters were dousing the flames," local resident Poonam Patni told AFP. "Many of the bodies were burned."
