North Somerset Council have launched an investigation into the death of a woman, who was killed after being hit by an advertising hoarding on Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier.
On October 28 police and ambulance services were called to the Grand Pier, following reports of an injured woman struck by an advertising board.
The woman was rushed to hospital but later died.
Both North Somerset Council and the police begun investigations into the incident; the police's investigation was completed and a report filed to the coroner.
A formal inquiry is likely to take place next year.
“On October 28, police attended The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare to assist the ambulance service as it treated a woman who had reportedly been injured by an advertising board." According to spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police.
“The woman was taken to hospital where sadly, she later died.
“Officers subsequently carried out an investigation into the incident and have submitted a report to the coroner.
“North Somerset Council continues to investigate the matter ahead of any inquest into the woman’s death, which is expected to take place next year.
“The woman’s family have been kept updated and our thoughts continue to be with them at this difficult time.”
A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “Our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult time.
“We are investigating the incident and this is ongoing.”
Michelle Michael, the co-owner of the Grand Pier, said: "We are not aware that the incident led to the death and we believe that is why the coroner has been involved.
"Until such time as we see the coroners report, and in consideration of the family, we are unable to comment further."
