A Chief immigration officer has been left fuming after a landmark court ruling from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) that ruled Governments have a duty to protect people from climate change.

In a heated debate on GB News, former Chief immigration officer at the UK Border Force, Kevin Saunders said that we "should leave the EHCH tomorrow" because it is "complete and utter nonsense".

On the other side of the debate was broadcaster and journalist Nina Meyerhof who argued that by leaving we are "turning our back on democracy".

Saunders said: "We should leave the East Gate child tomorrow. It is a complete and utter nonsense.

We this saw last week or the week before. A gentleman, I think he was from Bulgaria, was not the sort of person that we want in the UK.

"He was a really bad lad and we wanted to remove him. And he claimed under the trial and of course, what happens, he won and we're stuck with him.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"We need to come out of this ridiculous piece of legislation. It doesn't work for what we want."

He added: "I've worked in the immigration business for a long, long time.

"If I could have a pound for everybody who has lodged a decline under the act and won it, I'd be a multimillionaire because people claim are under rights, human life in the UK and win because it's a ridiculous piece of legislation."

However, Meyerhof said: "There are only two countries that have left the ECHR one is Greece and that was when it was taken over by a military junta by the colonels and became a dictatorship.

"The other one is Russia, who were thrown out when Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. Do we want to ali ourselves with Vladimir Putin and the and the Russian regime and become pariahs on the world stage?

"For centuries Britain has travelled the world bringing democracy and bringing the things that Britain is well known for such as decency, fairness and democracy."

She later added: "Where does your morality come into this? We know you can't just throw everything out just because you want to break the rules.

"Any game is easy to win if you break the rules.

"This is all about Rishi Sunak desperate to get a plane off the ground to get to Rwanda who are selling off the accommodation that's supposed to be set for the refugees and there's not enough space for them.

"I mean if he got a plane off the ground and a plane load there, there's no more accommodation. And then what?

"So this is all about this ridiculous farce of going to Rwanda. There are there are far better ways of dealing with this.

"Becoming a pariah on the world stage is not worth it."
