Ice was deployed to Washington DC to deal with crime last year
| GETTYAt 2.15pm [7.15pm GMT] a school shooting occurred in the county at Wootton High School in nearby Rockville.
One student was shot and taken to hospital, while the suspect, a fellow student, was quickly identified and arrested by Montgomery Country Police.
The chaos came amid Donald Trump's crime crackdown in the nation's capital, issuing an executive order which declared a "crime emergency".
The order, released in August 2025, deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) to the streets of Washington DC, with additional National Guard troops deployed from states such as Ohio, South Carolina, and Louisiana.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said murders in major cities had plunged to their lowest level since 1900 last week.
She attributed this to the President's deployment of Ice and the deportation of the "worst of the worst illegal aliens from our country".
Highlighting Washington DC, she said homicides in the capital were down 62 per cent and motor vehicle thefts down 53 per cent.
