A rival party have filed for a converatorship for the 80-year-old

Joe Biden’s frequent gaffes have led politicians to try and take back control from the “geriatric elites” they believe to be unfit to lead.

The US Libertarian Party has filed for conservatorships for Biden, 80, as well as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel, 81.

The President’s latest gaffe took place on September 11, when he falsely stated that he was in New York City the day after the 9/11 attacks when he was actually there on 20 September 2001.

The incident is the most recent in a series of mistakes and blunders that have begun to raise questions about Biden’s physical and mental abilities.

Biden, 80, is the oldest living president ever.

He plans to run for re-election and if successful, would begin his second term aged 82 and conclude it aged 86.

The Libertarian Party has filed for conservatorships for both Biden and McConnell.

A conservatorship is appointed by a judge when a person is unable to make decisions for themselves, so another individual is given decision making powers on their behalf.

The Libertarian Party’s Chair, Angela McArdle, said that the party has spoken with several attorneys who have confirmed that an organisation can have a conservatorship over an individual in Washington DC

"Is it going to be a fight in the courts? Obviously. But we're committed to filing this thing and we wanted to send a really strong statement that we're serious about getting someone in the White House who has the mental capacity to run the country because we don't have that right now," McArdle told Newsweek.

The petitions for the octogenarians’ conservatorships state that they both “exhibit obvious signs of mental confusion and cognitive decline in public”.

In Biden’s specific petition, it states: “He wanders around confused, stumbles over his words, and has incurred over $4.8trillion (£3.84trillion) in debt since taking office in 2021.”

McArdle said “they don't seem well enough for anyone to even leave them home alone all day. It's crazy to me that they're still running the country and making major financial decisions.”

Biden has publicly recognised his frequent verbal blunders and errors, and has referred to himself as a “gaffe machine”.

He has acknowledged voters’ worries about his age, stating a day after his announcement to stand again: “I respect [voters] taking a hard look at it. I take a hard look at it as well.”

Biden's constant verbal mishaps have been widely noted by the media and the public.

Last month, the 80-year-old mistakenly referred to the Grand Canyon as one of the ‘nine’ wonders of the world.

A week later, he made another signature gaffe, this time forgetting the name of Hawaiian island Maui which was recently devastated by wildfires.

The octogenarian referred to the island as "the one you see on television all the time".

In June, the President also mixed up the ongoing war in Ukraine for the Iraq War, which ended in 2011.

A poll run by Newsweek revealed that 75 per cent of Democrats said they were “concerned” about Biden’s ability to lead the country due to his age.
