A major fire has ripped through a high-rise building in the Bronx area of New York after a reported gas leak.
More than 200 fire and emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly after midnight local time (5.00am GMT), as thick black smoke engulfed the upper floors and skies.
The blaze is said to have spread to multiple apartments in the 17-story building, according to a statement from the New York City Fire Department.
Multiple injuries have been reported online, though it is not immediately clear if this is the case.

Unconfirmed social media posts also suggests fatalities, though authorities have not verified these claims.
The New York City Fire Department confirmed on their social media: "FDNY members are operating at a 4-alarm fire at 3485 Bivonia Street in the Bronx."
One video circulating online includes a woman claiming there was a "loud explosion" before the blaze.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson wrote on X: "We are praying for our residents and families at this time who are being evacuated from 3485 Bivona Street.
"Thankful for the quick response of our first responders.
"A reception centre has been opened nearby to register families for immediate services and temporary housing.
"There are several civilians with injuries and one firefighter at this time.

"The FDNY, NYPD, PSA8/47th Precinct, NYCEM, the Department of Buildings, American Red Cross, all remain on site.
"This is just horrible. We are in touch with our city agencies and monitoring this 4-alarm.
"Please pray for our neighbours displaced in the early hours of the morning. This is both devastating and traumatising."
A four alarm fire refers to a major and severe emergency requiring a significant response of firefighters, indicating a large-scale incident.
Fire alarms typically range from one to five, with five being the most serious.
Earlier this month, a five-alarm fire broke out at Morris Heights in the Bronx. 250 firefighters attended the scene, leaving two injured along with one civilian.
