Lincoln Memorial fire: Emergency services rush to Washington monument after blaze on site

A fire has broken out at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, with a kiosk next to the iconic monument ablaze.
Emergency services have rushed to the scene after the fire involving a propane tank broke out.
One person is understood to have sustained "serious injuries" as a result of the burns.
The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department said on social media that the victim has been flown in a police helicopter to hospital.

"The victim has been flown to an area trauma center with serious non life threatening injuries," it wrote.
It added that the "bulk of fire" had now been put out with hazmat units requested to attend the scene.
The cause of the fire currently remains unclear.
The Lincoln Memorial is one of the world's most popular tourist attractions, with nearly eight million visitors per year.
More tourists travel to the monument than the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, and the Tower of London.
