New York officials say that 161,000 migrants have arrived in the city in the past 18 months

New York's Democrat mayor Eric Adams has launched a blistering attack on Joe Biden, accusing him of failing to get a grip of the country's migrant crisis.

A surge in the arrival of asylum seekers has seen a number of states publicly demand more help from the White House.

Yesterday Adams announced he was imposing new restrictions on asylum seekers being bussed into his city until Biden took action.

No busses filled with asylum seekers will be allowed into the city for the immediate future.

Adams said in a press conference: "We cannot continue to do the federal government’s job."

The mayor added: "The federal government said to New York City: ‘We’re not going to do our job – you do our job.

"'You take care of 4,000 people a week, Eric, you and your team’."

He was joined at the press conference by the Democrat mayors of Chicago and Denver whoa re also calling for more help from Washington DC.

Adams continued: "It baffles me.

"I have to keep hammering away at this and I’m really pleased that we’re now getting a chorus of other cities that are joining us.

"That coalition is going to continue to grow because these cities deserve better.

Accusing Biden of passing responsibility onto him, he added: "Cities should not be handling national problems."

New York officials say that 161,000 migrants have arrived in the city in the past 18 months.

The new restrictions imposed by Adams mean that buses must give at least 32 hours’ notice of their arrival.

Failure to comply with the new rules risks jail.
