California Governor Gavin Newsom says the state has elevated its security posture since the start of the conflict

The FBI has warned of Iranian drones potentially striking the West Coast of the United States, with warnings of Tehran "aspiring to conduct a surprise attack on California."

According to the report, the Islamic Republic allegedly wanted to unleash unmanned aerial vehicles from a ship near the American mainland if the US launched strikes on the regime.

Officials have not revealed which sites could have been targeted or how a drone-carrying vessel might approach the US shoreline.

"We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack", reports ABC News.

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office said the bulletin was one of many security updates the state received from federal partners daily.

California, it said, had elevated its security posture since the start of the conflict.

"The Governor's Office of Emergency Services is actively working with state, local and federal security officials," said Diana Crofts-Pelayo, a spokesman for Mr Newsom.

When asked if he was worried that Iran may increase its retaliation to include strikes on US soil, President Donald Trump told reporters, "No, I'm not."

President Trump also plans to invoke emergency law for Sable Offshore as it looks to restart production from a cluster of offshore platforms in California, Bloomberg reports.

Citing a person familiar with the matter, the White House is preparing to summon authorities under the Defense Production Act to preempt state laws and ease permitting for Sable.

The planned order would also pave the way for renewed oil production off the southern California coast, in a bid to that would allow President Trump to ease the global crude supply crunch spurred by his war with Iran

The US-Israeli war against Iran has sent oil prices surging, making fuel more expensive for consumers in California, where gasoline prices were already increasing.

Iran said the world should be ready for oil at $200 a barrel as its forces hit merchant ships and the International Energy Agency recommended a massive release of strategic reserves to dampen one of the worst oil shocks since the 1970s.

Despite what the Pentagon has described as the most intense airstrikes since the start of the war, Iran also fired at Israel and targets across the Middle East on Wednesday, demonstrating it can still fight back.

On Wednesday, three vessels were reported to have been hit in Gulf waters as Iran's Revolutionary Guards said their forces had fired on ships in the Gulf that had disobeyed their orders.

While Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz said the operation "will continue without any time limit, as long as required, until we achieve all objectives and win the campaign," Trump suggested the campaign would not last much longer.

He told Axios news website by phone that there was "practically nothing left" to target in Iran, adding: "Any time I want it to end, it will end."
