Elon Musk has waded into the US migrant crisis as he ventured down to the southern border to find out “what’s really going on”.
Speaking with officials and border patrol officers, the Tesla and Space X CEO claimed the influx of migrants was causing cities such as New York to “buckle”.
Accompanying a 15-minute video, Musk wrote on social media: “Went to the Eagle Pass border crossing to see what’s really going on.”
Musk can be heard saying in the video, “We actually do need a wall” before claiming, “We need to require people to have some shred of evidence to claim asylum to enter, as everyone is doing that.”

Exposing the major loophole, Musk continued: “It’s a hack that you can literally Google to know exactly what to say.”
Despite voicing his concern, the 52-year-old also insisted that he was “pro-immigrant”.
He said: “I believe that we need a greatly expanded legal immigration system, and that we should let anyone in the country who is hardworking and honest, and will be a contributor.
“By the same token, we should also not be allowing people in the country if they’re breaking the law, that doesn’t make sense.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
“I think we want to do both things - smooth out legal immigration and stop a flow of people that is of such magnitude that is actually leading to a collapse of social services, where even America’s largest city, New York, is buckling under the pressure of just how many illegal immigrants are there.”
Musk was accompanied by Republican Congressman Tony Gonzales.
Gonzales said: “I really appreciate Elon coming down and giving an unfiltered depiction of what’s happening on the border.”
He added: “We feel very abandoned. And there’s some solutions. A big part of this is being able to share stories that no one hears about.”
Donald Trump pledged to build a wall along the US-Mexican border
Truth Social/Donald TrumpMusk's support for a border wall won plaudits from former President Donald Trump.
Trump, who is seeking a non-consecutive second term in the White House in 2024, made building a wall along the Mexican border a central part of his 2016 election campaign.
The 77-year-old left the Oval Office claiming to have completed 452 miles of the wall.
However, critics argue only 80 miles of new barriers were built where there were none before.
