Trans activists have clashed with women's rights protesters outside the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool after sabotaging an organised rally.
Police were forced to intervene and split up the differing groups over concerns that the confrontations could turn violent.
A barricade was set up by Merseyside police in order to prevent the two groups from mixing.
The friction occurred at a rally criticising Labour for failing to take a firm enough stance on women's rights.

Counter-protesters, many wearing face masks, attempted to sabotage the gathering by the Albert Dock in Liverpool as they booed speeches and took part in a series of expletive-laden chants including: "F**k off terfs."
Terf is a derogatory phrase used by activists to describe those concerned about the impact trans rights are having on women.
Those attending the original rally were holding up banner and placards which criticised Starmer for saying that some women could have a penis.
One read: "Keir Starmer 100 per cent of women do not have penises."

The Labour leader has been plagued for months over questions around whether a woman can have a penis.
In April he said that 99.9 per cent of women "of course haven't got a penis".
He added that there were a "very small number" of people who identify as a different gender to their birth sex.
Labour has said that it wants to be pro-trans rights while also protecting women's spaces.
Counter-protesters at the rally carrie placards that read: "Terfs not on my turf."
Labour MP Rosie Duffield has been a vocal critic of Starmer and warned the party must do more to protect women's rights.
Ahead of the party's conference she also told GB News that "many MPs" are "uncomfortable with the shift towards the centre" led by Starmer.
