A neighbour-from-hell decided to repeatedly cut the cables to her WiFi because he was convinced she was spying on him.

Gary White, 42, from Perth, was caught in red handed as he was spotted tampering with his neighbour’s equipment outside her home.

He also had his car stopped while driving a wrecked car as officers worried he could endanger other road users.

Fiscal depute Stephanie Paterson told Perth Sheriff Court: "The complainer was using the internet at her home on 12 October.

"She woke later and noted it was no longer working.

"She went out to the close to check the cable and discovered it was damaged as it had been cut. She contacted police to report it had been cut.

"Police attended and an OpenReach engineer was called to attend.

"They believed the damage was deliberate as the cable was completely broken with markings as if someone had tried to cut the rubber casing.

"On October 28, she was within her home when she noticed the light on the broadband hub flickering and knew that meant it was no longer connected.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"She ran out to check the cable and again discovered that it had been cut.

"She noticed a person entering the flat below her own and that was the accused.

"The next day a friend arrived at her home to assist with the broadband problem and they observed the accused hanging out the access window with a pair of pliers.

"The householder asked what he was doing and he began to speak about signals and the wi-fi spying on him.

"She was upset by him cutting the cable."

He admitted two charges of police assault in Perth High Street on February 11, 2022.

The 42-year-old admitted driving a Volvo V70 which was in such a poor state of repair that it should not have been on the road as it posed a danger to the public on September 18, 2022.

Paterson told the court: "Police observed the accused driving past them. It had no lights and they turned round and pursued the accused.

"A number of dangerous defects were discovered. He was informed he could not safely continue driving the vehicle.

"He was adamant he could, and would do so when the police left. His car was seized."

However, Solicitor Angela Clay, defending, said her client had mental health issues which were responsible for him having "some delusions involving his neighbours."
