A 33-year-old woman has been arrested by West Midlands Police on suspicion of murder

A 10-year-old schoolgirl who was found dead in her home has been pictured and named.

Shay Kang, from Rowley Regis in Sandwell, was named by West Midlands Police today after officers arrested a 33-year-old woman yesterday.


The girl was found with injuries at an address in Robin Close at 12.10pm.

Officers later confirmed the 10-year-old died at the scene.

In an update, West Midlands Police said: “Tributes have been paid to the ‘bright and fun-loving’ girl who was tragically found dead at a house in Rowley Regis.

“Shay Kang, aged 10, was found yesterday, and a woman remains in custody on suspicion of murder.”

Brickhouse Primary School, which included Kang as a pupil, added: “Our school is deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of our children.

“Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well-liked by all, and she will be very sadly missed by everyone.

Flowers, cards, notes and toys have been left at the scene.

A person wrote: “You will be so missed by everyone, rest easy princess.”

Another added: “Shay you will be forever missed and always in our thoughts.”

The woman arrested, who is understood to have been known to the girl, was taken into custody for questioning.

A cordon was erected around the property as West Midlands Police carried out the initial steps of its investigation.

Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt said: "A young girl has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those impacted by this terrible passing.

"We know how shocking and distressing this will be for the community and we'll continue to have a police presence and offer our support in the area over the coming days.

"A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances around this sad death."
