Another added: "Can’t the London firework show just be fireworks and music? I see no reason to include the celebration of the 10 year anniversary of same sex marriage, way out of context, you are a massive disgrace Sadiq Khan".

Political commentator, Alex Armstrong said: "Sadiq Khan is such a narcissist."

Despite the cold and damp weather, thousands turned out in the Capital to enjoy the huge firework spectacular.

Millions tuned in to watch the New Year’s display which lit London up at midnight.

Ahead of the 12,000 fireworks, Khan said teams had been working hard on the "amazing display".

"The teams have been working really hard, after we starting planning this in July," he told Sky News.

"Over the last four or five days, 75 men and women have been getting both side of the River Thames ready.

"We've got 12 to 13 minutes of amazing fireworks, amazing music and amazing light display and one or two surprises as well."
