The jet's wing appeared visibly torn following the crash

A Ryanair plane crashed into a barrier after landing at a Greek airport, which caused significant damage to the aircraft's wing.

The plane had completed its journey from London Stansted Airport to Kalamata International Airport without incident.

The collision occurred as the aircraft was moving along the ground following a routine landing.

After making an impact with a fence, the jet's wing was visibly torn, prompting an immediate response from emergency crews at the scene.

Flight FR6080 had taken off from Stansted on Thursday morning, carrying passengers to the popular Greek destination, when the ground incident occurred.

Travellers aboard the aircraft reported hearing a "loud banging sound" at the moment of impact.

One passenger told The Sun: "You could feel the impact. There was an announcement that everyone had to wait on the plane for the fire brigade."

The witness expressed concern at the decision to keep passengers aboard, adding: "With the wing damaged the way it was, why wouldn't you evacuate the plane first? Everyone was scared - it was the fact they said wait on the plane even though there was clearly a risk of fire."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

A Ryanair representative confirmed that the aircraft had touched down without issue before the wing tip made contact with a fence during taxi operations.

The airline stated that passengers were able to leave the aircraft through normal procedures following the incident.

A spokesman said: "The aircraft then underwent the required inspections and maintenance prior to its return to service."

No passengers or crew members sustained injuries during the incident.

The incident follows the Air India plane crash, when an aircraft en route to the UK crashed in western India.

Air India confirmed that 241 of the 242 people aboard the flight died.

The sole survivor was Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old Londoner who said from his hospital bed in Ahmedabad: "I don't know how I came out of it alive."

Ramesh described feeling the aircraft begin its descent immediately after take-off.

"It felt like the plane had got stuck," he recalled, explaining how pilots attempted to lift the jet before it "went full speed and crashed into the building".
