Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation has reacted to Liz Truss' resignation, appearing to mock the Prime Minister's short stint in office.
Liz Truss resigned as Tory leader after a chaotic 44 days in office, with a new Prime Minister expected to be in place by the end of next week.
She signalled the end of the shortest term by any prime minister following a botched financial statement, the loss of two of her most senior Cabinet ministers and an open revolt by Tory MPs.
The Tories are now scrambling to find a replacement who will become the third leader in two months.
After Truss' resignation, Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev took to his state-affiliated Twitter account to share his reaction to the news. He said: "Bye, bye Liz Truss, congrats to lettuce".

The tweet referred to a lettuce that has been recorded on a live stream next to a framed picture of Liz Truss which asked the question “Which wet lettuce will last longer?”, referring to the Prime Minister and an actual lettuce.
The stunt, which began on October 14, was inspired by a column which referred to the Prime Minister as an “iceberg lady”.
The video originally showed a picture of Ms Truss next to an analogue clock, and a lettuce.
After Truss’ resignation, the lettuce had a blonde wig, and the framed image of the PM was placed face down on the desk as various celebratory songs played.
Disco lights shone and a mini bottle of pink prosecco, a full glass and a miniature Gordons gin surrounded the lettuce.
