Vladimir Putin is looking to hire "kamikaze" spies from Britain according to leaked documents.

Sinister reports indicate the UK security community fears Moscow is on a new offensive to find Britons willing to turn on their country.

Last year MPs and their staff were urged to stay alert for attempts by the Kremlin to infiltrate their offices.

And now, according to The Sun, a Russian intelligence source has told the Kremlin that it is planning to "intensify undercover work with secret informants" across the UK.

"Another direction - to intensify undercover work with secret informants in all spheres of society in Britain, mainly among civil servants and politicians of all ranks - including those who sit in Parliament and members of the Lords," the email said.

"The emphasis is on finding scumbags ready to commit self-sacrifice under any pretext.

"We need 'kamikaze-torpedoes' who would agree to participate in sabotage.

"Particular attention must be paid to activists from international student youth movements, trade unions, and leaders of various religious communities."

Former MI5 intelligence officer Annie Machon told the publication she had "no doubts" that Moscow was ramping up its intelligence operation to "try and get access to people and turn agents in useful places".

News of the increased effort to recruit spies in Britain comes amid fears of a new phase of the invasion of Ukraine.
