'The ruling is perfectly simple and clear - people just need to find a bit of backbone,' Sex Matters campaign director Fiona McAnena told GB News

Women's rights groups have gathered to protest up and down the nation to demand the implementation of the Supreme Court's trans ruling, marking 199 days since the decision.

Declaring "the law is the law", Sex Matters' campaign director Fiona McAnena spoke to GB News reporter Sam Francis.

The march began in Parliament Square and has proceeded to move down Embankment opposite the London Eye while pro-trans groups launched a counter-protest.

In April, the Supreme Court ruled that the term "women" refers to biological sex, rather than gender identity, leading to mass disgruntlement across Britain within the pro-trans community.

However, women's rights campaigners have launched a protest to call on the Government to apply the ruling and issue legal guidance.

"Straight after the ruling, Keir Starmer said the Government supports it. Everyone needs to get on with it," Maya Forstater told Sam.

"And now we've been waiting seven months for guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission. It's been completed," she said, adding that they did not know why the process has been delayed.

"Everyone needs to understand the law. And at the moment they're saying there is no guidance."

Meanwhile, Ms McAnena demanded "leadership" from the authorities, declaring: "The law's the law!"

She futher claimed that "everyone understood the guidance", claiming that it is not necessary to delay any law changes further.

The activist told Sam: "It's perfectly simple and clear. You know, if something is meant to be for one sex or the other, then that's based on how you're born and you can't change that.

"And all we're saying is, sometimes you need single sex spaces, and not one male should be in a women's space or women's sport or a women's prison."

Ms McAnena demanded the authorities and employers can "simply act on the ruling".

"That's why we're here. We're saying to stop waiting. It's the law," she said.

Sam asked whether the ruling has been misunderstood, which could be the root cause of the delay, a suggestion Ms McAnena firmly shut down.

"When the ruling was made, no one was in any doubt what it meant," she said, speaking with the protest and counter-protest surrounding her.

"And subsequently they all decided it's all a bit difficult and confusing. But it wasn't difficult or confusing when they were keeping women out of the Olympics, for example.

"Everyone knows what a man and a woman is, so we just need people to find a bit of backbone," she finished.

Beyond the Capital, campaigners are gathering in Edinburgh outside the Scottish Parliament on Saturday, including pro-women's group Women Won't Wheesht.

Counter-protests are also being held, led by Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh (RTiE) and Trans Kids Deserve Better (TKDB).
