The Conservative Home poll pitted Ms Mordaunt against the likes of Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss and Kemi Badenoch

Penny Mordaunt has won every poll among Tory members as the Conservative Party leadership race continues to heat up.

Ms Mordaunt is one of eight Tory politicians vying to become the party’s next leader after Boris Johnson announced his resignation last week.

And in polls carried out among Conservative members, which pitted Ms Mordaunt against her competitors, the Trade Policy Minister came out on top in every one.

The results posted on Ms Mordaunt’s Twitter page, showed that she had 67 percent of the vote against Jeremy Hunt, who had just 18 percent.

While Ms Mordaunt picked up 61 percent of the vote against Tom Tugendhat, who managed 23 percent.

She also received 58 percent of the vote against former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, and 56 percent when put up against Mr Sunak’s successor Nadhim Zahawi.

Ms Mordaunt took 51 percent of votes against Liz Truss in the ConHome poll on July 12, while the Foreign Secretary picked up 33 percent of the vote.

The closest poll came when Ms Mordaunt was pitted up against Kemi Badenoch.

But Ms Mordaunt still came out on top, winning 46 percent of the vote, compared to Ms Badenoch’s 40 percent.

The other candidate not featuring in the series but still in the running is Suella Braverman.

Ms Mordaunt’s campaign got off to an awkward start on Sunday with her launch video hastily edited to remove several identifiable figures including athlete Jonnie Peacock.

The Paralympian requested footage of him featured in the clip be removed, with Ms Mordaunt, who remains among the early favourites, posting an amended version hours later.

Announcing her bid, the international trade minister said the UK’s leadership “needs to become a little less about the leader and a lot more about the ship”.

Ms Mordaunt was Ben Wallace’s predecessor as defence secretary, and the first woman to hold the post before being sacked by Mr Johnson shortly after he became Prime Minister in 2019.

The trade minister has many strings to her bow as a Royal Navy reservist and former reality TV contestant, having appeared on the Tom Daley-fronted diving show Splash.

She played a prominent role in the Leave campaign in the 2016 Brexit referendum, and enjoys the backing of Dame Andrea Leadsom and Michael Fabricant.
