A Pakistani asylum seeker has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape of an 18-year-old woman in Nottinghamshire.

Sheraz Malik, 28, will go to prison for 10 years with four years on extended licence after he was found guilty of raping the teenager in Sutton-in-Ashfield last June.

Malik met the girl on Sutton Lawn, a park in Sutton-in-Ashfield on the evening of June 29, 2025.

The victim was introduced to him by a friend of Malik and a group of other older men.

She was initially raped by another member of the group, before being taken by the Pakistani national to a hidden area and she was subjected to a sexual assault for a second time, Birmingham Crown Court heard last year.

The convicted rapist was first identified after the initial suspect was arrested and he was later traced to an address in Newcastle, Nottinghamshire police have confirmed.

Before seeking asylum in the UK, Malik lived in Italy, Germany and France.
