West Yorkshire Police has urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch with them.
The vandalism comes after wooden silhouettes were damaged before the metal ones were installed.
Mr Elvin said the statues were installed to enhance the town and make it attractive to visitors.
"It's the little things that make a big impact," he added.

"At times when the sun sets you look at these Tommies and think about the people who gave their lives and it's so poignant."
However, Mr Elvin said there were "individuals who think it's ok to come along and smash them up".
He added that he had removed the figures and is going to repair them before putting them back up.
"These people who are vandalising them, they're not going to stop us doing what we believe is the right thing as a community," Mr Elvin said.

|Ossett and Gawthorpe Councillor Duncan Smith said it was "awful".
"Remembrance in Ossett is a really big thing and the Tommies really add to that sense of pride," he said.
One user wrote on Facebook, saying: "I am as angry and frustrated as everyone else is about this".
"I really am," he added.
"As angry as this makes us, we have to use what is available to us to try to tackle it.
"That does mean working with the police and anti-social behaviour team and the wider community, including businesses, CCTV and any intelligence available to try to identify those responsible and for them to bring about whatever sanctions are available to them.
"The alternative of doing nothing isn't acceptable in our community."
Another wrote: "Such a sad world we live in now".
"All you and your amazing volunteers can do is keep picking up the pieces and continue your valuable community work that 99 per cent of the community appreciate.
"Once they've been identified, they should be made to join the group and work with you to repair the damage they've caused.
"Give back to the community in the hope that just maybe they'll appreciate the impact of their actions."
