Last month, Rycroft told MPs that Britain has already paid Rwanda £140million but he was still unsure whether the stalled asylum policy was value for money.
Reacting to the news of his knighthood, GB News’ Nigel Farage said: “There are lots of local people who've done huge work over decades who get British Empire medals, MBEs, and that's very nice and very good. But when it comes to political awards, God help us. A bloke called Rycroft. He works at the Home Office. He's a civil servant bureaucrat.
“He's in charge of the English Channel. Yes, they've let 45,000 in this year. They've given him a CBE. Play your cards, write Rycroft let 100,000 over. Next year you might finish up as a lord! Talk about reward for failure.”
Nigel also hit out at the Labour MP Chris Bryant after he told a parliamentary debate that he wanted to “point out” payments for Farage amounting to almost £550,000, which he said came from the Kremlin-backed broadcaster RT – formerly known as Russia Today.
Bryant said he was “mystified” by some of the names missing from the UK sanctions list.
The former minister used parliamentary privilege to identify individuals including broadcasters “trotting out propaganda” on Russian television, others said to be associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime, plus those involved in Gazprom contracts.
Responding, Nigel said: “Then there’s Chris Bryant. The MP who openly lied about me in Parliament. Said that in one year I'd been paid half a million by the Russians, althoughI hadn't been paid a penny. Wouldn't say it outside because I'd have sued him. And he now is Sir Chris Bryant. This is isn't an honour system. It's a dishonour system!”
