Since working with Break Free, Razor said he does not beat himself up so much about his weight anymore

Neil 'Razor' Ruddock has discussed his weight problems that have been with him throughout his professional football career exclusively on Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel.

The former England player spoke about his involvement with the charity Break Free, an organisation that aims to change the way weight is perceived, spoken and thought about.

Mr Ruddock spoke about his struggles trying lose weight throughout his career as a defender from 1986 to 2003.

The former England footballer said: 'When I was a professional footballer for twenty years, I couldn't have trained any harder I couldn't have eaten any less but I was still at two or three pounds overweight. I could never get to my ideal weight.'

Mr Ruddock said the pressure to lose wight impacted his mental health, "I was beating myself up when I was playing it was really mentally getting into me.

"You know I've gotta train harder, I've gotta train harder and I couldn't of trained any harder if I trained any harder and ate any less I wouldn't have been strong enough to play so I know it's just that but it was a nightmare situation", the former Millwall player said.

Since working with Break Free Mr Ruddock said that he does not beat himself up so much and it has taken the pressure of his shoulders to still be the 'ideal' weight and encourages others who are having similar struggles with weight challenges to do the same.

"Go onto the website and read through it and you won't beat yourself up so much you'll understand it. For a lot of people who get too big they don't want to go to the gym because they're embarrassed at their size, they don't know they won't know what to wear to the gym. All the help is there", he said.
