People have branded the neighbour as 'entitled'

A neighbour row has erupted after a so-called "entitled" homeowner asked a man across the street to mow her lawn for her.

A man mowing his front garden on a sweltering Saturday afternoon was approached by his neighbour from across the road who asked if he would be willing to mow her lawn as well, reasoning that since his lawnmower was already in use, it would be convenient.

The man initially thought she was joking and laughed at what he assumed was light-hearted banter.

However, he quickly realised his neighbour was entirely serious about her proposition, with temperatures approaching 32C on the scorching day.

The neighbour persisted with her request, telling him: "It's like, not even big, just the front part."

Uninterested in taking on additional work during the scorching weather without compensation, the man lightheartedly suggested she could pay him for the task.

He said: "I said, 'Sure, no problem, Are you hiring me now?' She looked at me like I was the rude one and just walked back inside."

Three days later, the neighbour's grass remained unmown, with the man noting her grass is "still looking feral".

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The man shared his experience on Reddit, where the post sparked considerable debate about neighbourly expectations and entitlement.

Many commenters sided with the man, with one stating: "If my neighbour were elderly or otherwise in a situation that made it difficult for them to mow their front lawn, I'd likely consider it.

"Guessing in this case, though, she's just lazy."

Another commenter branded the neighbour as entitled, writing: "There are some people who think that they can ask for anything, and it is your job to tell them no, instead of self-monitoring and realising that some things are not things you should ask for."

Some users shared similar experiences of neighbours making presumptuous requests.

One commenter wrote: "I do both my neighbours' lawns from time to time. I don't mind being 'neighbourly', but I don't want to be taken for granted."

Another individual drew parallels to other situations, sharing: "It's a bit like when you're washing the car and they tell you that theirs needs doing too. Laugh and ignore!"

Other users branded the neighbour as "entitled" for even daring to request the favour.
