Problems arose when one neighbour brought her child to play in her garden

A woman has sparked controversy in her neighbourhood after refusing to allow local children to continue playing in her inherited garden playground.

The homeowner moved into her grandparents' former house with her husband Andre after discovering they were expecting their first child.

Her grandparents had previously transformed their property into what she described as a "child's paradise", with her grandfather building an elaborate playground by hand on an adjacent lot.

"Everything was made with his own two hands. It was a child's dream and we both played there any chance we got," she shared on Reddit.

After her grandparents passed away, the house went to her mother before the couple purchased it as their family home.

Initially, the woman welcomed neighbourhood families and found them "lovely and younger than I'd expected", noting that "a bunch of couples with kids had taken over the street in the past five or so years".

However, problems arose when one particular neighbour brought her child to play.

The homeowner witnessed a dangerous incident when she spotted "a kid in a red shirt literally standing on the roof of one of the two storey playhouses, almost 10 feet off the ground."

When she ran outside to intervene, the child's mother "stormed over from who knows where and yelled at me to f*** off and not tell her kid s***".

After the woman explained it was her property, the child fell and began crying, prompting the mother to threaten legal action if he had been injured.

The confrontation concluded with the neighbour calling the homeowner a "gin jockey" before departing with her child.

Concerned about potential legal liability after the threat of a lawsuit, the woman's husband decided to erect a fence around the property to prevent further trespassing.

When other parents enquired about the fence, the couple explained their reasoning and specifically mentioned the problematic neighbour's behaviour.

The decision has had social consequences for the aggressive parent, with the homeowner noting: "I heard she's been shunned by the other parents and none of them will let their kids play with hers."

The woman now questions whether revealing the specific incident was necessary, expressing guilt that the neighbour's child is suffering due to his mother's actions.

The woman received widespread support from Reddit users who confirmed her legal position.

One commenter reassured her: "It's your right to protect yourself from harm. If any child gets hurt on your property, the parents can sue the pants off of you."
