The man's lawyer said he had "slipped back" into drug use before the attack

A man was jailed for more than eight years after a long-running dispute boiled over when he ran over his neighbour, leaving him with a double leg fracture.

Mohammed Hussain appeared at Leeds Crown Court this week after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving in a trial.

The victim required three rounds of surgery and was required to wear an external cage after breaking his tibia and fibula, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 49-year-old was also convicted of attempted burglary of one home and burglary of another.

Leeds Court heard that Hussain had an ongoing grievance with a man who lived on nearby King's Road.

The victim had been busy getting his young nephew from his car when Hussain drove at him in his Audi, knocking him down in February 2023.

Hussain handed himself into Elland Road Police Station where during his interview with officers, admitted knocking the man down in his car.

He told police the man had been following him and planned to attack him.

The jury did not believe this submission.

The victim said he had been "living in constant fear" due to Hussain's drug taking and erratic behaviour.

He added that the incident had left him with anxiety and paranoia.

While Hussain was initially granted bail over the incident, he was caught on camera in July last year unsuccessfully trying to enter a home in Hyde Park, Leeds.

Hussain was caught inside a woman's home weeks later where he was told to leave.

He fled the scene and the woman called police.

Hussain was arrested and held on remand since August last year.

In court, Hussain appeared from HMP Leeds where his lawyer said he had "troubled the courts on a regular basis" in his younger years, however, he had largely stayed out of trouble for the past two decades.

Walsh added that his client had "slipped back" into drug use.

Judge Howard Crowson jailed the offender for seven years for the car attack.

Hussain was handed a further 18 months for the burglary offences, adding up to a total of eight-and-a-half years behind bars.

He was disqualified from driving for five years and seven months.
