Police say the man had been under the influence of alcohol when he caused trouble on a busy street

A semi-naked British man - who is thought to be from the Royal Navy - was seen biting a motorcyclist in a crazed attack.

The attacker was thought to be with a group of other Britons in Chennai, south east India, when he was dragged away by police.


According to local media, the man is a crew member on one of the two ships that had been anchored for maintenance.

He was seen biting people at random as members of the public attempted to regain control of him.

Despite officers attending, the man continued his rampage.

A video shows the Briton running away from police before he launches an attack on a man stuck in traffic on his moped.

He can been seen biting the driver's shoulder as police chase him and finally take him away.

Two other British men appear to intervene.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

One man pleads with the attacker: "Leave it, leave it leave it... Toby, they're not going to let this go mate."

Another man then asks: "Have you got his bag?" adding: "We'll just get hold of Dean when we get back."

Officers are seen pulling the man by his hair and refuse to let him go.

According to Indian media, the two foreign nationals had been under the influence of alcohol when they caused trouble on busy street in the city's Royapettah area.

One of the men is believed to have got into a dispute at a shopping centre before the chaos took place.

It is reported that one person removed his t-shirt before running around the street.

No case is believed to have been registered.

A Royal Navy Spokesperson said: "We can confirm an incident involving UK service personnel in Chennai, India.

"This incident is currently under investigation so it would be inappropriate to comment further."
