Over 2,000 migrants have successfully made the journey in small boats since Thursday

Armed forces veterans have condemned the arrival of hundreds of Channel migrants on the country's "sacred day of remembrance".

For the fourth straight day, Border Force responded to multiple small boat arrivals into UK waters.

More than 2,000 migrants have now made the illegal crossing since Thursday, GB News can reveal.

This morning, Border Force vessels arrived into Dover harbour with around 150 migrants, just as dozens of veterans and many locals were gathering for a march to the war memorial in Dover town centre.

At 11am, just as the nation fell silent, the Border Force vessels Defender and Ranger were heading back to Kent with the occupants of two other migrant boats that crossed into UK waters.

At the same time, the Border Force vessel Hurricane was heading for a rendezvous with the French patrol ship Minck, as it escorted another migrant boat towards the separation zone between UK and French waters.

The illegal arrival of hundreds of migrants across the English Channel on Remembrance Sunday is particularly sensitive.

GB News spoke to some of those gathered at the war memorial in Dover, who expressed anger at the continued crossings.

Two veterans spoke but didn't want to give their names.

One elderly veteran said he had recently been abused on social media for expressing frustration at the small boat crossings.

He said: "It makes me really angry that these boats are coming here on this sacred day of remembrance, not that they care."

Another said he was "outraged" and "angry Britain can't defend its borders".

GB News provisional figures put the number of migrant arrivals on Sunday at around 300.

That takes the total since Thursday to more than 2,000.

For the year so far, Channel migrant numbers have now passed 39,000.

That figure is well beyond the 36,816 who made the illegal crossing during the whole of last year.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "The number of small boat crossings are shameful and the British people deserve better.

“This Government is taking action. We have detained and removed more than 35,000 who were here illegally, and our historic deal with the French means those who arrive on small boats are now being sent back.

“But we must go further and faster – removing more of those here illegally and stopping migrants from making small boat crossings in the first place."
