The row centred around the parameters of free speech in Britain

Calling small boat migrants lawbreakers should be discouraged, neurodiversity coach Fahima Mahomed has claimed during a lively clash with Matt Goodwin on GB News.

“They are literally breaking the law”, the GB News star responded during the frosty clash which centred around free speech.

Matt claimed words like ‘hate’ and ‘misinformation’ are used by the Left to stifle free speech in Britain, while Mahomed insisted the debate surrounding free speech is a non-starter.

“If I want to say, ‘stop the boats, I think it’s an invasion, I want it stopped’, is that hate?”, Matt asked.

“It’s not hate, but it’s painting everyone as criminals.”

“They are criminals. They are literally breaking the law. They are destroying their documents and arriving at an unauthorised point of entry. They are literally breaking the law.”

“You cannot say that”, Mahomed said repeatedly. “They all are not, at the end of the day, you cannot say that.”

Matt said there is a sense of “frustration” around words like “misinformation”, saying it is “used of accusing people they do not have the right information or opinions while not giving them the information they need to make a judgment about what is happening in the country.”

Citing the Southport riots, Mahomed said: “And then people go out and say whatever they want.

“People were targeted that look like me. These are the repercussions of saying things that incite hate.

“It was really scary for someone like me, who has lived in this country for many years that actually felt like that.”

“Nobody would condone harassment”, Matt responded, before Mahomed said people need to start saying what is “correct”.

It comes after Labour peer Lord Maurice Gasman warned the party faces “Tory-style wipeout” if it continues to embrace “progressive liberalism”.

Speaking at a Policy Exchange event, the Blue Labour founder claimed voters will abandon Labour just as they did the Conservatives in the last election.

Glasman argued that Labour has "abandoned both socialism and conservatism" in favour of a "procedural liberalism that is hostile to political action and solidarity".

"The penetration of progressive liberalism has ended the conservatism of the Conservative Party, and in doing so it has eviscerated the Conservative Party as a living body: it shows no sign of resurrection," Glasman told the Policy Exchange audience.

He warned that Labour faces the same fate as the Tories.

His comments reflect growing concern about the direction of Starmer's leadership as the party navigates its first year in government.

Glasman's warning comes less than a week after the local elections, where Labour lost 187 seats and the Conservatives suffered an even greater blow with 674 seats lost.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage's Reform UK made dramatic gains, winning 677 council seats.

Reform also secured their fifth MP when Sarah Pochin won the Runcorn and Helsby by-election by just six votes.

These results have intensified concerns about Labour's ability to maintain its traditional voter base.

Glasman highlighted the dramatic shift in County Durham, describing it as "the birthplace of the Labour movement" that had been Labour-controlled for a century.

"On May Day we bore witness to the rupture," he said. "County Durham has been Labour for 100 years. And after May Day, Reform has 65 seats and Labour has four."
