Babu Mariyadasan, 48, was sentenced to five months in prison

A migrant who carried out a random sex attack on a woman evaded immigration authorities for three years.

Babu Mariyadasan, 48, arrived in Britain as a tourist from India in 2019, but ended up overstaying his visa.

The Indian national was on immigration bail and had dodged the Home Office for three years before carrying out a sex attack on a woman in East Ham, East London, The Sun revealed.

The victim, who remains anonymous, said: “It was disgusting.

"It was shocking. It was traumatising.

“When I asked him to stop, he started shouting at me.

"He started to scream at me.

"I no longer walk around when it is dark.”

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that the asylum seeker fled after groping his victim, who managed to photograph him in the aftermath before handing the images over to the police.

The 48-year-old, who cannot speak English, denied the charge of sexual assault.

However, last month, Mariyadasan was convicted and received five months in prison for the horrific attack.

Prosecutor Pamela Muniya told the court that it is likely that the Indian national will be detained and face deportation.

It comes amid revelations that asylum hotel operators were told by the Home Office to house foreign criminals at their establishments.

Official guidance obtained through freedom of information requests shows that accommodation providers must "acknowledge and agree" that some residents may be "ex-foreign national offender[s] released on criminal bail".

Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, told The Telegraph: "At last we're beginning to learn the truth that has been withheld from us for so long.

"No wonder local residents are deeply fearful of the young men in these hotels.

"In my opinion, none of them should be free to walk the streets.

"The Government tries to hide the truth from us all the time, but piece by piece - as with this story - we are beginning to learn the full story, we are beginning to learn the full scale of the horror."

A spokesman for the Home Office said: "This guidance was produced under the previous government and reflects the conditions of the asylum estate as they stood in 2019.

"The current Government is working in partnership with local authorities and communities to address legitimate concerns about the inherited asylum system, including their safety, while successfully removing 5,200 foreign national offenders in its first year, a 14 per cent increase."
