Gideon Falter claimed that London authorities, under Mayor Sadiq Khan, had tried to stop a vigil commemorating victims of recent Bondi Beach attacks

Martin Daubney was left gobsmacked after an “astonishing revelation” from Gideon Falter, chief executive of the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism, during a live broadcast outside Parliament in Westminster.

Mr Falter claimed that London authorities, under Mayor Sadiq Khan, had tried to stop a vigil commemorating victims of recent Bondi Beach attacks, citing safety and crowd-control concerns.

GB News has approached Sadiq Khan's office for comment on this statement.

It comes after 16 people were killed and at least 40 others treated in hospital after a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia over the weekend.

The terror attack unfolded on the first day of Hanukkah, a sacred Jewish holiday, with multiple gunmen opening fire on crowds at the popular beachfront location.

The elder of the attackers - a father and son duo - was shot dead by armed police at the scene. The younger suspect is understood to be in a critical condition in hospital.

Speaking to GB News from the vigil Mr Falter said: "Honestly, it’s galling. We’ve just had the terrorist attack in Sydney.

"It’s the worst possible news to start Hanukkah with. And now, instead of showing solidarity or compassion, City Hall is telling us we can’t use the square because it’s too dark.

"Hanukkah is about bringing light to darkness, and here, we’re being prevented from doing exactly that.

Mr Falter added: "We’ve been hearing from MPs and members of the House of Lords who echo what we’re saying: time has run out for politicians.

"Enough of thoughts and prayers. We don’t need words; we need action. Simple steps like ending two-tier policing and proscribing organisations such as the Muslim Brotherhood — banned across the Arab world but allowed to operate here — or Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Extremists, radicals, even terrorists, are able to operate in the UK, putting everyone at risk. The people who attacked Jews in Sydney could easily target people here.

"There have been cases here in the UK: a couple of people were arrested with assault rifles and 200 rounds of ammunition, allegedly waiting for another 700 rounds before targeting the Jewish community.

"Sydney could have happened here."

The vigil is still going ahead tonight, despite the Mayor of London allegedly trying to stop it.

GB News host Martin, who looked visibly taken aback, responded: "Well, there's an absolutely astonishing revelation there. Of course, we're trying to get a comment from Sadiq Khan office."

In response to the attack, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese convened an emergency meeting of the national security committee, branding the violence "beyond comprehension".

He said the assault was a deliberate act against Jewish Australians, carried out on the first day of Hanukkah, a time meant for celebration and faith.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns echoed those concerns, stating the shooting was clearly aimed at Sydney’s Jewish community.

He confirmed a major counter-terrorism investigation is underway, pointing to the timing of the attack, the weapons used and the discovery of an improvised explosive device inside a vehicle linked to the deceased suspect.
