The letter shared how the previous homeowners secured the property for £27,000

A long-lost letter has been discovered in a flat after 32 years, with the former owner reuniting with his previous message.

The resident from Hove stumbled upon the piece of history whilst tidying her kitchen, uncovering a message from 1993 concealed in a drawer amongst her cookware.

Aimee Oliver made the unexpected discovery hidden away in the space where she stores her pots and pans.

"It was pretty well hidden. We were like, 'Oh my god, what is this?'" she said.

The letter, penned by the flat's former occupants, contained heartfelt wishes for future residents.

The message explained how the couple had acquired the property in poor condition and were gradually renovating it.

"We hope you enjoy living here as much as we do, and all your downs are small and all your ups are big," the letter stated.

Within 24 hours, Andy Neal, whose former spouse Kirstie had authored the letter, made contact after a past colleague of his mother spotted the Facebook post.

"I messaged straight away. I was excited but I wasn't sure the reaction we were going to get," Oliver explained.

She found Neal immediately receptive, as "he was instantly really open, telling me all these bits and bobs about his life".

The discovery has sparked an unexpected friendship between the current and former residents.

"It's really cool to see how it's been changed and updated," Oliver noted about learning the flat's history.

Both Oliver and her partner work as tattoo artists and they are now creating a special design for Neal.

The artwork will serve as a tribute to his father, who passed away recently.

The pair have arranged to meet in person, making what was a chance discovery into a meaningful connection.
