Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley declared "London is safe" on GB News as he promised to crack down on "dangerous men" after official data revealed a major drop in homicide cases.
London has achieved its safest year in more than a decade, with the Metropolitan Police recording just 97 homicides in 2025.
This figure marks an 11 per cent reduction compared to the 109 killings documented in 2024, representing the capital's lowest annual total since 2014 when 95 deaths were recorded.
The statistics reveal that London's homicide rate per capita has reached an unprecedented low of 1.1 per 100,000 residents, despite the city's population continuing to grow.

"We're targeting the most dangerous men, repeat offenders in domestic violence or stalking cases and throwing everything we have at protecting women and children," Sir Mark told The People's Channel.
He added: "Nobody should be overly concerned about walking the streets of London. London is a safe city".
The reduction in youth violence has been particularly striking, with 2025 recording the fewest victims aged under 25 this century.
Teenage deaths fell by 73 per cent since 2021, dropping from 30 to just eight last year.

Mayor Sadiq Khan's Violence Reduction Unit, established in 2019, has played a significant role in this decline.
The unit has delivered 550,000 interventions designed to prevent young people from being drawn into gang activity.
Sir Mark explained: "This is such good news that this is the lowest per capita homicide rate London has ever seen. That's fantastic news.
"It is because the brilliant men and women of the met are bearing down and targeting the most dangerous.

"They are arresting a thousand people more a month, using new technologies like facial recognition to get more criminals off the street. That's what making London safer."
The figures come just weeks after US President Donald Trump claimed crime levels in London were "crazy" and suggested police officers were avoiding certain areas of the capital, remarks Sir Mark Rowley previously dismissed as "complete nonsense".
Mayor Sadiq Khan, who has been locked in a long-running war of words with the American president, also moved to defend London’s reputation.
"Many people have been trying to talk London down, but the evidence tells a very different story," he said.
Despite the positive data, serious challenges remain for the Metropolitan Police.
A vetting review published last week found 131 officers and staff went on to commit crimes or misconduct after being recruited with inadequate background checks between 2019 and 2023.
Conservative London Assembly member Susan Hall warned against relying on selective statistics, saying concerns remain particularly around violence against women and girls.
