A Liverpool supporter has described how they were "lucky to be alive" after a horrific accident during Monday's Premier League victory parade.

The incident saw a car ram into crowds celebrating Liverpool FC's title win, leaving dozens injured.


The vehicle ploughed into fans gathered on Water Street in Liverpool city centre shortly after 6 pm, according to Merseyside Police.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, with an air ambulance among the vehicles deployed to treat those affected by the collision, which has left at least 47 people injured.

A 53 year old British man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Merseyside Police confirmed they were contacted just after 6 pm on Monday "following reports that a car had been in collision with several pedestrians on Water Street."

Social media footage appeared to show a grey minivan striking at least one pedestrian before veering into a larger crowd, pushing people along the street before coming to a stop.

One Liverpool fan, who visited came to celebrate the victory from Spain, told GB News: "We were at the same road, and fortunately, we had left a few minutes before.

"We heard what happened when we were back in the hotel. We were very lucky.

"Three of our friends had just left at that same time that there was the accident. But fortunately we are all alive now."

North West Ambulance Service said it was still assessing the situation and working to ensure people received necessary medical help.

According to emergency services, 27 people, including four children, were taken to hospital, with two sustaining serious injuries.

Another 20 people were treated at the scene of the incident.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims told a press conference that authorities were not treating the incident as terrorism.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it," she said.

The incident has drawn reactions from across the UK, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressing his concern.

"The scenes in Liverpool are appalling -- my thoughts are with all those injured or affected," the Prime Minister said in a statement following the collision.

The football community has also rallied behind Liverpool, with messages of support flooding social media.

Manchester United, historically Liverpool's fiercest rival, posted on X: "Our thoughts are with Liverpool FC and the city of Liverpool after today's awful incident."
