A Lidl worker has been left with “life-changing” injuries after an accident at work.
Emergency services rushed to the Whitworth Way store in Wigan after they received reports of the incident at 9.48pm on Wednesday.
Greater Manchester Police has since launched an investigation into the incident after the female staff worker was taken to hospital with a “serious leg injury”.
A police statement read: “At around 10pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024, Greater Manchester Police were called to a report of a workplace accident involving an individual on Whitworth Way, Wigan. A female sustained life-changing injuries and an investigation has been launched.”

PADetails about how the woman sustained the leg injury have not been disclosed.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We responded to an incident following a call at 9.48pm, sending an ambulance, two response vehicles, a doctor, an advanced paramedic and the Hazardous Area Response Team. A patient was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.”
A cordon remained in place until around 11.25pm yesterday.
Wigan Council said it was investigating the workplace incident.

A Lidl spokesperson said the supermarket chain is "delighted"GettyLast week, a Lidl worker told GB News that they were “verbally abused” by pro-Palestinian protesters who were staging a demonstration inside a store in Wales.
The worker, who wished to remain anonymous, added that the demonstration “left many customers feeling unsafe and uncomfortable”, with some crying due to the “overwhelming” situation, and staff made the decision to close the shop.
Police were called to the scene, and staff members soon began to escort customers out whilst informing incoming shoppers that the store was being shut due to safety reasons. However, the staff member was then verbally abused by the protesters, who called them “pathetic” and “useless”.
“I then received verbal abuse from members of the protest. Calling me pathetic, useless and part of the problem with what is going on in Palestine due to closing the store. I informed them it was due to safety we closed, only to be laughed at and told I was nothing but pathetic for doing so,” they said.
The shop worker blasted the protesters for the demonstration, stating they felt their safety was compromised: “Nothing of what took place today was peaceful, it was more vandalism and disrespectful to us as colleagues. As well as receiving verbal abuse felt like my job was a place, I wasn’t safe today.”
