A 71-year-old woman has died following an alleged attack outside a Lidl supermarket in Worcestershire.

Two people, aged 62 and 67, have been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter after their charges were upgraded from grievous bodily harm.


The woman was pronounced dead the day after the incident, which occurred outside the supermarket in Stourport-on-Severn.

The two suspects remain in police custody following the altercation, which also left a 65-year-old man injured.

West Mercia Police confirmed the arrests had been upgraded following news of the victim's death.

The incident took place at some point between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday on the town's Vale Road.

In total, four people were reportedly involved in the altercation outside the supermarket.

Both the 71-year-old and the 65-year-old were allegedly assaulted during the confrontation. All four individuals then left the area following the incident.

West Mercia Police said: "Sadly, the 71-year-old woman involved in the incident outside of Lidl in Stourport yesterday has since passed away."

"The 62-year-old woman and the 67-year-old man who were arrested following the incident have been further arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter."

Police said enquiries remain ongoing surrounding the circumstances of the incident as they urged the public to show restraint in their response to the case.

"We would ask the public to refrain from speculating online and respect her family's privacy at this difficult time," the statement said.

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews of North Worcestershire CID said enquiries are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have dash-cam footage from Lidl car park," he said.

"Please get in contact with us if you think you have information which could help in our investigation."

Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area during the four-hour window when the altercation occurred.
