A train carrying 56 passengers has collided with a tractor and trailer at a level crossing in Herefordshire, causing rail services to be suspended.

The Manchester-to-Cardiff service struck the vehicle on a crossing between Ludlow and Leominster, according to Transport for Wales.


British Transport Police confirmed the train was not derailed in the incident.

The collision occurred just after 10.45am at Nordan Farm, Leominster.

The 08.30am service from Manchester Piccadilly was involved in the crash, which has led to significant disruption on the line.

Six people are being assessed by medics following the collision, but British Transport Police said none of the injuries are thought to be serious, including those to either driver.

A number of passengers are understood to have suffered minor injuries in the incident.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The air ambulance was deployed alongside land ambulances and paramedics to attend to those affected by the collision.

British Transport Police officers remain at the scene, working with colleagues from West Mercia Police and fire crews to manage the incident.

A police spokesperson said inquiries were ongoing to better understand the circumstances leading up to the crash. The incident has caused significant disruption to rail services in the area.

National Rail confirmed all lines are blocked between Hereford and Craven Arms. Services between these stations will be cancelled or changed, with disruption expected to continue until 7pm today.
