Leeds Bradford Airport has closed while emergency runway repairs are carried on Friday afternoon.
The airport said it did not expect to re-open the runway until at least 7pm.
Around 22 flights were due to take off before that time, according to its website.
Leeds Bradford Airport has apologised for the chaos and said the "minor repair" to the runway needed to be carried out immediately.
A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport: "We apologise for any disruption and ask that passengers contact their airline for further travel advice.
"Please also see our website and social media for updates.
"This has not occurred due to an incident - it is a minor repair to the runway surface but needs to be carried out immediately."
In a follow-up post they advised one passenger to: "Please contact your airline for travel advice.

Incoming flights have been diverted to East Midlands, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle airports.
Customers shared their frustration on social media following the announcement of the closure.
One user wrote: "Leeds Bradford airport runway shut nothing in or out. Not a single rep to be seen."

"Airport's own website says airport closed until 7pm but the staff in the departure lounge haven't been told a thing."
The airport said the next update on the situation will be at 5pm.
