More than 200 women have signed a letter calling for a clampdown on officers accused of creating a trans-hating parody

Gender-critical females are demanding Scottish police officers involved in a trans-hate "parody" of JK Rowling should be banned from enforcing any new hate crime laws.

More than 200 women have signed an open letter calling for a clampdown on the powers of police officers in Scotland.

The group shared their "disgust" over fictional character "Jo" - created by Police Scotland officers - who is allegedly based on author Rowling.

They claim the narrative included offensive "tropes" where gender critical women were compared to Nazis.

A scenario was presented at an official police "youth engagement" hate crime event last month, in which Jo, an "online influencer" is "passionate" about her beliefs, including there being only two genders.

As the story continues, "Jo" states that trans people "all belong in the gas chambers".

In a letter, the women said the character had been "a thinly veiled parody of the author JK Rowling, who in recent years has championed the sex-based rights of women and girls".

They slammed the "hypothetical situation" as as an offensive claim about women who believe biological sex should outweigh self-confessed gender identity.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The letter has been signed by political figures, academics and gender-critical campaigners.

Jo Farrell, the chief constable, stated: "We write to you to express our disgust that public servants, not least those charged with enforcing the new offences created by the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021, were responsible for this material.

"It plays into long-standing, offensive tropes that women who are concerned about the erosion of their sex-based rights are akin to Nazis."

It comes just days before Scotland’s new hate crimes laws are enforced.

Protection for trans, non-binary and cross-dressing people will be imposed under new legislation.

However, critics claim it will be "weaponised" against gender critical women such as Rowling.

The letter adds: "We call on you to take immediate action to identify which Police Scotland staff wrote this, remove them from any duties relating to policing the new Act and order an investigation into how this happened.

"Our confidence in Police Scotland’s ability to enforce this contentious piece of legislation fairly – due to come into force in just a few days’ time – was already low. It is now at rock bottom."

Police Scotland has declined to deny that the “Jo” character was based on the Harry Potter author.
