The hunt for the missing teenager came to an end over the weekend

Ben Leo has outlined the key "differences" in the case of missing Jay Slater compared to the Madeleine McCann case as questions are raised over "new evidence".

Jay Slater has been missing for over two weeks after he disappeared whilst on holiday in Tenerife after he attended a music festival.

The case has become a huge mystery and people on social media have been joining the hunt for the missing teen.

Yesterday Paul Arnott, a 29-year-old climber who posts videos of his exploits to social media platform TikTok, has been helping the Slater family - who have travelled to Tenerife in order to find the 19-year-old - revealed that a pair of sunglasses similar to the ones the teen had last been seen wearing have been found near his last known location.

GB News has seen the climber's footage, which shows the shades - black and broken - on the ground apparently near the Mirador lookout point, close to Slater's last known location.

Speaking about this on GB News, Founding Chairman of Global Britain UK Aman Bhogal explained: "It is better to trust the police who are dealing with these types of things day in day out rather than any TikTok people that might come out and say things."

GB News host Ben Leo asked: "Do you not think that there's something slightly fishy about this whole thing?"

To which Bhogal responded: "I mean, it's a bit of a mystery, isn't it? But again, we can hark back to what happened with Madeleine McCann. I mean, that went on for years. Is it one of those things?"

Ben then pointed out: "The difference between this and Madeleine McCann, I worked quite extensively on Madeleine's story when I worked at The Sun.

"I went to Germany. I went to Portugal I had many weeks there investigating. Yet she was just a child who was kidnapped. She was only three years old.

"Was it the same as Jay Slater? Of course, it's all come out now, and I'm not saying it's linked, but it's all come out about his background with previous violent incidents and whatever else. Is this the same kind of thing? "

Commentator Benjamin Butterworth explained: "I'm reminded of the Nicola Bulley case when lots of people were investigating online, it did far more harm than good and led to lots of misinformation that was unpleasant for the family.

"So this might be really quite difficult, but the idea that it's been cooled off after 14 days, you can't imagine the anguish that the mum feels in that situation.

"And you mentioned Maddie McCann. You know, they did what any parent would do, but they were middle class and had access to media friends to get the attention."

Ben asked: "Are you making this a class thing?"

Butterworth said: "No, but this has been on our TVs and newspapers for the past few weeks, this family doesn't have the kind of financial resource to pursue it out of their own pocket like other people have been able to. So it must be very difficult."

TV detective Mark Williams-Thomas flew out to conduct his own investigation into the missing boy and has urged the family to use some of the £46,000 raised on GoFundMe to help continue the search.

He wrote on X: “In light of the police search ending. I have suggested the family should use the GoFundMe money to continue the search using experts in searching.”
