The Foreign Secretary retweeted comments by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “terrorist who talks with missiles”.
Vladimir Putin has been accused by Security Minister Tom Tugendhat of the “vile” targeting of Ukrainian civilians after a series of apparent missile strikes on cities.
Kyiv was targeted as well as reports of explosions in Dnipro, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr and Kropyvnytskyi.
The attacks appear to be in retaliation to an attack on the Kerch Bridge, which links Russia and Crimea.
Russian President Mr Putin called the attack “a terrorist act” masterminded by Ukrainian special services.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said the Russian response was “unacceptable”.
In a tweet he said: "Russia’s firing of missiles into civilian areas of Ukraine is unacceptable.
"I communicated with Dmytro Kulebathis morning to reinforce the UK’s ongoing moral and practical support to Ukraine.
"This is a demonstration of weakness by Putin, not strength."
